See what GDPDX has been up to lately
This was a wet one!
•
Not only did it rain inches throughout the project, I also had to bore under two sidewalks with more water…
•
Luckily @rabidplantswoman chose some good plants for when the rain does finally let up.

If this isn’t one of my faves…

I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Another post-construction garden prep job!
•
We took out the contractor’s hog fuel, turned up the compacted soil, and amended with 3 yards of compost blend. Throw in a few Largo pavers from @western_interlock and a few dainty boulders, and it’s all ready for Kyle @ninebark_design to work her magic 🪄

Finally got to wrap up phase 2 of this project from last fall and it was just as much, ahem, fun! Removing an 8’ wide bed of river rock with landscape fabric is definitely a job for a dingo!
•
The area under the fir trees was dubbed the shi* area with piles of random rock and construction debris. I think they’ll name it something else now though 😍

New build? Just remodeled your house? This is for you.
•
Take a couple extra (cardio) steps to prep your soil….pick axe, add compost (plant dependent), shovel-turn it all in, grade it…your plants will be much happier!

Thanks to the vision of Linda Meyer, the handyman who made the connection, and Dan who made my pictures look good- our client is going to be thoroughly surprised when he gets home from his winter vacation.

Winter tip: pruning Epimedium and gardener’s choice timing!

Another fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants project, and another lawn removal!
•
When you think you have another week to prep, but some scheduling changes pushes you to bump it up a week, it’s an extra large feather in our collective cap.
•
It’s fun to have a vision and put it to real life without the help of a design or plan, though it can be a little stressful during the process, ha!
•
Plants include Choisya, Deer Fern, Geranium renardii, Fringecup, Beach Daisy, Columbine, Spirea, and Carex.
•
Lucky for us, we get to keep our eyes on this one with quarterly maintenance 🙌

Another small, but mighty, design on the fly, one day project for Leah and Cal this week.
•
Four yards of soil and 4 yards of arborist chips to build up this berm and give our client a little more privacy.
•
Plants include an evergreen Magnolia, Escallonia, red twig dogwood (clients existing), Teucrium, hardy Geranium, and Sedum.
•
One happy client + two tired crew = success 😁

Hi, Annie here. This is the face behind Garden Design PDX.
•
Here’s what I’m doing this time of year:
-Scheduling my crew for maintenance in February (and beyond)
-Sending out estimates and contracts for work we have in the spring (or sooner)
-Designing gardens that have come my way in the last few months (or days)
-Taking phone calls from potential clients
-Doing site visits with potential clients
-Coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers for lead times
-Making plant list after plant list after plant list for future projects
-Posting to Instagram once in a while
-Staying fit and strong so my body can handle the transition back to the fieldwork
-Having a ton of fun every step of the way
•
I’ve just closed my design books so I can wrap up the last few before install season starts in March.
•
Pedal to the metal and excited my little crew is here for it, too.

What a year!!
•
Please enjoy this short 2024 recap reel that I won’t tell you how long it took me to edit.
•
Grateful for my crew, my landscape designers who trust me with their clients, and my pal Dan who really helps us make these projects pop.
•
2025, we’re coming for ya!

It’s a pretty special day when you get to do a little atrium facelift on a Rummer house 🤩
•
Our clients are both 90 years old, still working, and Ralph even used an electric chainsaw to snip off the end of their new Xmas tree. I hope to be like him some day!
•
Thanks to Beth for bringing me into this one!

Say 👋 to the GDPDX crew: Myself, Cal, Caroline and Leah. We had a few other helpers this year (hi Marcelle, Rose, and Hadley!), but this is my core team and I’m so fortunate.
•
This rad team is always there to ask the questions, carry out the tasks, call me out when I need it, support each other when we’re having a day, work their tails off, and boogie when the music is on.
•
We wrapped up the fall season with a winter pruning class (because continued education never hurts) and lunch on a cold, sunny day.
•
Thank your for following along with us this year and wishing you a warm and cozy holiday season ✨

Sometimes it’s not about the fancy stonework or the plant palette, but just a good ol fashioned lawn removal and cedar chip facelift.
•
This client dreams of removing all of her lawn in hopes of a bigger native habitat, but taking it one step at a time to phase the expense and effort of establishment was a good way to go.
•
More plants and ideas to come from the clever @radishgardens

Simple, but not easy.
•
A Japanese style design-on-the-fly approach, plants procured 3 days prior, 9 big ‘ol boulders set, plants in the ground, drip irrigation put in, and mulched.
•
Here’s hoping those plants don’t slide down the hill like the last garden.
•
Fall season is almost wrapped up 😅
